The University of Minnesota is a huge campus of 50,000 graduate and undergraduate students and home to the Gophers basketball team.  The Gophers basketball team is one of the most celebrated sports on campus.  Home games, held in Williams Arena, are always packed.  As part of the 14,625 seats in Williams Arena, the boisterous student section has been dubbed "The Barnyard". 

The Gophers basketball team wears school colors of maroon and gold and home jerseys are white while away are maroon.  Goldy, the Gophers' mascot, makes appearances at every game and especially gets loud roars from the barnyard. 

Head Coach Tubby Smith enters the 2008 season for his second year with the Gophers basketball team.  He became just the 16th coach in the team's long history since its inception in 1897.  Over all the years, the Gophers basketball team has produced many NBA-caliber players: Voshon Lenard, Randy Breuer and Ray Williams have had the longest careers, spanning around a decade, in the NBA.
