The National Basketball Association was born from a merger between two former rival corporations, the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League.  It was 1949 when the deal took place to ink the NBA as the official league of pro-basketball in the US.  Since that date, the NBA has seen glory days in the 1970s-1990s with larger-than-life players become heroes to kids and all fans.  Recently, the NBA has faced reffing scandals and allegations of betting on games, but the league hopes to put these troubles behind them in prepartion for the 2008 season.

The NBA is made up of 30 teams ranging from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Chicago Bulls.  David Stern, the NBA commissioner, has been overseeing the league since 1984.  The league's most recent victorious team was the Boston Celtics who captured the championship with Kevin Garnett at the helm.
