Bill Laimbeer is one of the assistant coaches with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Bill Laimbeer has been involved with basketball for many years.

After attending Notre Dame, Bill Laimbeer was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 3rd round in 1979. He would play professionally in Italy for one season before returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1980. In 1982 he was traded to the Detroit Pistons where he would remain until the rest of his career through 1994.

He was a 2 NBA Champion (89, 90), 4 time All-Star, and led the NBA in rebounds twice. His #40 has been retired by the Detroit Pistons.

In 2002, Bill Laimbeer became the coach of the WNBA's Detroit Shock. By 2009, he had won 3 WNBA Championships (03, 06, 08). On June 9, 2009 he resigned from his position citing a desire to coach in the NBA. The Minnesota Timberwolves hired him as his first NBA coaching stint. Last season, he was an assistant to Kurt Rambis.
