TRADED TO LA CLIPPERS JULY 2009.
Craig Smith was born November 10, 1983 in Inglewood, California. After playing college ball at Boston College, Smith was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2006 NBA Draft. He scored 2,349 points in his collegiate career, placing him second on Boston College's career scoring list, behind Troy Bell. In his senior season, he averaged 17.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.8 blocked shots.
Although many first expected him to be a last-option forward in case of injuries, Smith was a pleasant surprise to the Wolves franchise as he has averaged 6.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, shooting 55% from the field. He ranks eleventh in the NBA in field goal percentage and ranks twentieth in the NBA in offensive rebounds per 48 minutes. He set a career high of 26 points in a game against Seattle in January 2007. The Minnesota Timberwolves are hoping this young forward can prove to be a solid player for many years to come.
Craig Smith is having a solid 2007-08 Timberwolves season through thirty games. Smith is third on the team in scoring with 11.1 points a game while only playing 22.6 minutes. Smith has also posted 4.9 rebounds, and a 55.2 field goal percentage which is tops on the team. Smith’s scoring has been up and down this season, but when teams do not pay heed to his inside prowess, he usually goes off. Smith has scored over 30 points twice this season once at the Washington Wizards on December 11 when he dropped 36 with the other occasion being a 30 point performance at Milwaukee on December 15. Craig Smith’s workmanlike attitude will be an asset as long as he is in a Timberwolves uniform.
