Damien Lamont Wilkins was born January 11, 1980 in Washington, North Carolina. Damien Wilkins grew up in a basketball family and is the son of retired 13-year NBA veteran Gerald Wilkins and nephew of nine-time NBA All-Star Dominique Wilkins. Damien Wilkins started his basketball career at Dr. Phillips High School where he was noticed and then recruited to play at North Carolina State University. After two years of playing on the North Carolina State roster, Damien Wilkins transferred to the University of Georgia. Damien played 2 very strong but not spectacular season at the University of Georgia and was not drafted in 2004 at the end of his NCAA career.
In 2005, Damien Wilkins got his break after impressing the Seattle Supersonics in the off season, and half way through the season they added Damien Wilkins. After the 2004-2005 season the Minnesota Timberwolves offered Damien Wilkins a contract but the Seattle Supersonics matched the offer and Damien Wilkins stayed with the team that had given him his break.
In July 2009 Damien Wilkins was added to the Minnesota Timberwolves roster in a trade. In the home-opener for the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2009-2010 season, Damien Wilkins made the game winning shot against the New Jersey Nets.
