Ed Pinckney embarks on his first NBA assistant coaching job with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is a former Villanova assistant coach, NBA journeyman and radio and television personality for the Miami Heat. Pinckney’s alma mater is Villanova.

Ed Pinckney was a No. 1 draft choice of the Phoenix Suns in 1985. He had a 12-year NBA career including stints with the Phoenix Suns, the Sacramento Kings, the Boston Celtics, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Toronto Raptors, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat. He played his best basketball in the late 80s when he averaged 11.5 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Kings in the Celtics. He averaged 6.8 points and 5.0 rebounds in 793 career games.

Ed Pinckney enjoyed an illustrious college playing career at Villanova. He was the key player for Villanova in the memorable 1985 upset win over Georgetown in the NCAA national championship game. He battled Patrick Ewing inside during that game, scoring 16 points and grabbing six rebounds, earning himself Most Outstanding Player. Pinckney was a four year starter at Villanova from 1981-85. His number was retired by the school.
