SIGNED BY ATLANTA HAWKS ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2009
Acquired by the Minnesota Timberwolves, along with Kevin Love, Brian Cardinal and Mike Miller, from the Memphis Grizzlies, in exchange for O.J. Mayo, Greg Buckner, Marko Jaric and Antoine Walker on June 26, 2008.
Jason Collins is a talented athlete who also excelled in the classroom. After his high school career at Harvard-Westlake School, Jason Collins graduated from Stanford University and was an all-American in 2001.
In 2001, Jason Collins was drafted as the number 18 overall pick. His first team was the Houston Rockets and was quickly traded to the New Jersey Nets. On the New Jersey Nets, Jason Collins saw lots of playing time and helped the team make it to an NBA finals run against the Los Angeles Lakers.
In 2002-2004, Jason Collins was a starter on the New Jersey Nets and again helped them make a run to the NBA finals. The New Jersey Nets signed him to a $25 million, 5 year deal following the season. But by 2007-2008, Jason Collins was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and, months later, he ended up on the roster of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
If Jason Collins looks vaguely familiar, it may be because his twin brother Jarron plays for the Utah Jazz.
