JUNE 2011 - TRADED TO HOUSTON ROCKETS Jonny William Flynn was born February 6, 1989 in Niagara Falls, New York. From a young age it was clear that Jonny Flynn had a natural talent for basketball, although standing at 6 feet and 196 pounds didn’t hurt either. Jonny Flynn started his competitive basketball career in high school where he played for Niagara Falls High School. As a standout player in the New York Public School System, Jonny Flynn was awarded 2207 McDonald’s All-American Award and was named to the 2007 USA Basketball Junior National Select Team.
After high school, Jonny Flynn was accepted to Syracuse University to play for the Syracuse Orange Basketball Program. During his freshman season with the Syracuse Orange, Jonny Flynn set a record for most points scored by a freshman with a staggering 28 points in his NCAA debut. In his second season with the Syracuse Orange, Jonny Flynn proved to not only New York Basketball Fans but also the nation, he was one of the best college point guards in the nation. After an impressive dunk over a 6 foot 3 inch opponent, basketball critics declared that Flynn was officially on the radar for the NBA Draft.
On April 15, 2009 it was announced that Jonny Flynn would forego his NCAA eligibility by hiring an agent. He was immediately selected in the 2009 NBA Draft as the 6th overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Jonny Flynn was added to the Minnesota Timberwolves roster along with fellow point-guard Ricky Rubio, however, Rubio declined to come to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves allowing Jonny Flynn to be the standout rookie of the 2009-2010 Minnesota Timberwolves Roster. He made the 2009 NBA Rookie/Sophomore Game and was named to the 2nd All Rookie Team.
