More Info

Marko Jarić was born October 12, 1978 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He is the son of Srećko Jarić who is considered one of the greatest international basketball players ever. Marko Jaric was originally an early entry candidate for the 1998 NBA Draft but withdrew his name from consideration to sign with Fortitudo Bologna. He did enter the NBA draft in 2000 when he was selected as the 30th overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers. Jaric was traded to the Timberwolves in August 2005 along with Lionel Chalmers by the Clippers in exchange for Sam Cassell.

Jaric is best known for his European basketball achievements. He played on the Yugoslavian National Team when they won the 2002 World Basketball Championships and he was also a member of the 1998 Gold Medal Under 22 European Championship team. Jaric is the only player ever to win back-to-back Italian League Championships on two different teams. He won it in 2000 with Paf Bologna and in 2001 with Kinder Bologna.

In his 2004-05 season with the Timberwolves, Jaric averaged career-highs of 9.9 points per game, 6.1 assists per game and 33.1 minutes per game in 50 games. Unfortunately, Jaric missed 32 games due to injuries, including two stints on the Injured List due to two separate right foot stress fractures. Despite the injuries, Jaric managed to score 10+ points in 23 games and 20+ on five occasions. He led the team in scoring on four occasions and scored his 1,000th career point in a game against the Portland Trailblazers. In a game on December 2, 2006, Jaric entered as a substitution with his jersey worn backwards. He fixed his jersey immediately upon notice, but was whistled for a delay of game penalty.

Jaric enjoys spending time in his home country of Yugoslavia and Italy. Along with Tony Parker from the San Antonio Spurs, Pau Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies and Andrei Kirilenko from the Utah Jazz, he served as a coach for Basketball without Borders, a basketball camp for young people held in Treviso, Italy during the summer of 2003. Jaric also takes part in the Teamwork at the Table Thanksgiving event at St. Joseph's Center in Venice where he helps distribute food baskets and turkeys to families.

Jaric is a tall guard and has the ability to run over defenders. His Serbian accent is a favorite with the fans and he is a fun player to watch. Fans look forward to seeing Marko Jaric tear up the Minnesota Timberwolves court!

Marko Jaric has played in 26 games through 31 in 2007-08. He splits backcourt time with smaller Minnesota Timberwolves guards, averaging 26.6 minutes. He is seventh on the team in scoring at 8.9 points. He is also averaging 4 assists and 2.6 rebounds. Jaric has had back-to-back twenty point outings this year, the first being against the Atlanta Hawks on November 24 and the second being in a win at the New Orleans Hornets on November 26. He also managed to dish out six assists in both of those games. Marko Jaric has seen a decrease in his minutes as of late but he might fall into the favor of Coach Randy Wittman if Sebastian Telfair’s turnover numbers increase. Timberwolves fans like to see Jaric on the Target Center coury!
