ON SACREMENTO KINGS ROSTER
Rashad Dion McCants was born September 25, 1984 in Asheville, North Carolina. He played collegiate ball at the University of North Carolina (UNC) where he was recruited by former UNC head coach Matt Doherty. He was the leading vote-getter on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team as a sophomore, led the league in scoring, and was named 2nd-Team All-America. He helped lead UNC to win the ACC regular season and the 2005 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament Championship with a 75-70 win over Illinois. After winning the championship, McCants declared his eligibility for the 2005 NBA Draft. Rashad McCants was selected 14th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA draft. He signed to a multi-year contract with Minnesota on July 8, 2005.
Rashad McCants is well-known for having an enigmatic personality; he has at times been moody, on and off the court. According to Timberwolves teammate Kevin Garnett, McCants has the talent to be an NBA star. He has the ability to put up double figure shots every game and is excellent at finding an open teammate. Let’s hope this young gun can propel the Timberwolves into the Championship round.
Rashad McCants has been a big contributor to the Minnesota Timberwolves lineup. He is averaging 26.8 minutes through 31 games and is second on the team with a 13.7 points per game average. He is also averaging 2.5 rebounds and two assists through 31 games. Rashad McCants numbers have been down at the end of December, but he has had some sparkling lines this year, including a 33 point performance on 13-22 shooting on November 14 versus the Sacramento Kings. He also played a solid all-around game on December 19 2007 versus the Golden State Warriors, when he dropped 23 points, six assists and three steals in 45 minutes. McCants is a scoring guard who can be off or on. Look for him to continue his streaky play unless the Minnesota Timberwolves can figure out their offensive schemes.
