SIGNED A ONE YEAR DEAL WITH BOSTON CELTICS TEAM ON AUGUST 7, 2009.
Shelden Williams was born October 21, 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Williams played college basketball for
Duke University where he set many records. Shelden Williams holds Duke's career blocks record, single-season blocks record, and career rebounding record. Williams is the third player (joining Tim Duncan and Ralph Sampson) in ACC history to have 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds and 350 blocks. Duke University retired Shelden Williams jersey number 23 in his honor.
Sheldon Williams was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the fifth pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. On February 16, 2008, Williams was involved in a multi-player trade to the Sacramento Kings for Mike Bibby and then just days later he was traded to our Minnesota Timberwolves along with Bobby Brown for Rashad McCants and Calvin Booth.
A personal note: Sheldon Williams is married to WNBA Los Angeles Sparks basketball star Candace Parker. Due to Sheldon Willims large size, his aggressive style of play, and shot-blocking ability, competitors and basketball fans alike have nicknamed him "The Landlord."
The Minnesota Timberwolves hopes this massive addition to the roster will give the team much needed size on the Target Center court.
