Meet Wayne Ellington, a guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Wayne Ellington was born on November 29, 1987 in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Wayne Ellington started his competitive basketball career in high school. Playing for The Episcopal Academy in Merion, Pennsylvania and Daniel Boone High School in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania.
Wayne Ellington then played collegiate basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels. As a member of the 2006-2007 NCAA ACC Championship Team, Ellington played all 38 games that season finishing the season with an average of 11.7 points a game. After his sophomore season with the North Carolina Tar Heels, Wayne Ellington declared he was going to the NBA but after failing to hire an agent he opted back out of the draft and played a third season with North Carolina. As a junior at the University of North Carolina, Wayne Ellington helped the Tar Heels win a National Championship and was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. He also was selected to play on the team that represented the United States in the Pan American Games that same season.
After his third season with the North Carolina Tar Heels, Wayne Ellington announced that he was forgoing his final year of NCAA eligibility to pursue the NBA. Wayne Ellington entered the 2009 NBA Draft and was a first round pick for the Minnesota Timberwolves, overall he was selected 28th. Ellington is now a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves roster and Twin Cities basketball fans are happy to see him play Timberwolves basketball!
